  1. Oh, no I am looking to create a backup of my system's current state so I can recover it later should something go wrong. I want to be able to reinstall Windows 7 on my machine with programs pre-installed (like Notepad++, Handbrake, etc.). I do not want to boot an OS off of a USB drive. I want to be able to install an OS (that has programs pre-installed) from a USB drive. I already know how to create a USB bootable OS install; I just don't know how to include pre-installed programs with that. I ran into something called "Windows SysPrep" and I think that's what I'm looking for, but I can't seem to get a definite answer.
  2. I am looking to make an exact clone of my HDD, use Rufus (Rufus - Create bootable USB drives the easy way) to make a bootable USB (yes, a large USB), and be able to use this USB as my "clean" OS install. Basically I'm trying to allow myself to have a full OS install on a bootable USB that also includes extra programs like 7-ZIP, Notepad++, etc tagged along with the OS install. The Windows key does NOT have to stay intact (I prefer it didn't). Can someone please point me in the right direction? I keep landing on OSX solutions with Google. I need a Windows 7 solution. (I know there's a way of creating an image and a recovery disk, but I'm looking for an "all-in-one" solution) Edit: This is for my laptop...but after running down the list of forums I'm guessing this belongs here: http://forum.techinferno.com/microsoft-windows/
  3. Downgrading/modding resets some of your BIOS settings. Boot into BIOS either with the left side button or F2 while booting up. Switch everything to legacy mode. Disable secure boot. That should do it, I believe. Did for me. - - - Updated - - - It does not exist. It's fake. I have spent hours on the phone and weeks trying to get a reply from LiteOn, Broadcom, multiple distributors, and various managers at these various locations. Mod your BIOS and buy any other chip.
  4. I successfully downgraded to v2.07 from v3.05. I successfully modded v2.07 (I get "svl7 Mod" at the top right of the BIOS screen) THANK YOU! Some tips: 0. Clone your current HDD/SSD to an external device and then clone it back once you're done with all of the steps. Downgrading from v3.05 to v2.07 messes up your Windows installation. 1. Turn off all non-Microsoft services in MSCONFIG 2. Once you backup your v3.05 BIOS, JUST run the downgrade file. Do NOT drag & drop the backup file on the downgrade file. Now what I don't get is why I have to flash my 2nd GPU. Hopefully everything works. Installing all drivers now...
  5. I am trying to downgrade my BIOS for my y510p from 3.05 to 2.07. I have a copy of my BIOS file and I drop that file on the executable downgrade file. It says it is missing drivers and to close all applications/run as an administrator. Just for the heck of it I took these same 2 files and copied them over to my HP Pavilion laptop and the program runs perfectly (it gives me an error stating this BIOS is not for my laptop, of course). What drivers are required for svl7's mod? EDIT: I got the program to run after turning all but Microsoft services off in MSCONFIG. Now my issue is "EC file size input error!". I clicked OK and it just closes the program. I did notice that the "New BIOS" section doesn't say version 2.07 (this is supposed to say 2.07, no?) EDIT2: I'm going to just go sit in a corner with a dunce cap… Ran the downgrade file as is. Worked. Windows won't boot but I'm reinstalling it now to hopefully fix it.
  6. What drivers does this require? I just transferred a copy of my BIOS and the downgrade EXE (3.05->2.07) to another computer and the program actually runs! It says that BIOS is not for that computer, of course...but it runs!
  7. Could you explain the modding process? I'm having difficulty getting past just running the mod, let alone doing anything else (like clicking "next" or "accept" or anything, lol)
  8. I guess I should post this here: I downloaded the 3.05->2.07 downgrade file, ran it as admin in Windows 7, and I got an error stating "Insyde flash cannot load the driver. Please close all applications. If you run this utility in Windows 7, please run as Administrator." BIOS settings: all set to legacy BIOS flashback: Enabled Secure Boot: can't find it, doesn't seem to exist in my BIOS settings (unless I'm being dumb...) Obviously I closed all other applications. I also tried going through the steps in the stickied thread (drag & drop method). I was able to extract a copy of my BIOS (4.6mb file). I tried doing a drag & drop of that BIOS backup on the downgrade file but that gave the same error. Any ideas on something that I'm missing?

  10. Yeah I was afraid of this issue when I was purchasing my laptop. I had difficulty finding a 755M ultrabay (actually...I didn't), so I handed my wallet's soul over. But good to know Lenovo is serious about not supporting upgrades. Even if they're the ones advertising, selling, and profiting from the upgraded parts! I love my y510p dual graphics laptop, HATE HATE HATE HATE Lenovo with a passion. They give ZERO support when it comes to upgrades. They won't even admit that parts their manuals say are compatible with their laptops exist. I spent an hour trying to find out who on this planet sells the Liteon AC wireless cards, sent several e-mails to distributors and manufacturers...but to not avail.
  11. I take it the NOVO button is the one on the side where the power adapter goes in? That's the only way I've ever been able to get into my BIOS.
  12. I think that is the only option. I have yet to find any other ones. It certainly makes a big difference. I have a y510p and have installed this specific one as a boot drive. Some stats: Formatted: 119.2GB Windows 7 Installation: Roughly 80GB Driver Installation & All Current Windows 7 Updates (12/28/13): 60.2GB Boot Time: Under 20 seconds Worth every penny!
  13. Hardware: Lenovo y510p dual graphics. SSD as install drive. Game title: Combat Arms (this is a multiplayer FPS) settings / factory / custom settings: Lowest settings, no music (less stuff to focus on the screen). OS was downgraded to Windows 7. what FPS: 180-250, 100-180 while recording What location on the Map: Overdose
  14. How are you guys caping the FPS? Is this an option in the game itself, some third party program, or in the GPU settings?
  15. I don't have that particular product, but in general Logitech mice have been great for me. Great choice on mice! I especially like the ones that have that curve for the thumb. I currently use the Logitech G700, it's a beast . Though I rarely use the index finger buttons.
