And yes, you should be able to use the Nvidia card as primary device, but I'm not sure whether this will solve your brightness isssue, due to Optimus your system will always use parts of the HD4000 cause it's needed to bring the picture to the screen.
ah rats, guess i'll have to wait until Intel fixes it for Windows 8
I'll update my bios once a GHz edition for the video card pops up. I'm greatly looking forward to that =D

I get the following error "The version of rom file isn't newer than version of bios."

I have already installed your unlocked version, now I am trying to install the unlocked/no whitelist version.

    Please advise.

Damn, forgot to change this... you'll need to modifiy the platform file, first line in the 'common flash' section -> change RESSEN to RESSDIS and try again.
BIOS / VBIOS modification requests addressed to me need to be posted here: BIOS / VBIOS modification request thread (svl7)

Bought a 6205 card off of Amazon, do a search for product code B004NNZB4A, and swapped it in my Y580 with the unlocked/no-whitelist BIOS. Connected to the 5ghz on my WNDR3700. Works great and much better than the stock 2200N that was in here. Thanks again for your work svl7 on the BIOS and empirehell on your wifi card recommendation!

I installed the Lenovo Y480 / Y580 BIOS version 5DCN39WW (V2.06) [unlocked]. excellent! But there is a problem. I can not change the fan speed depending on the temperature. In the BIOS change but really do not.

There's a whole section for temperature and fan control on the new bios. Try peeking around more.

    I agree. I have tried:

    Low Speed/Temp 60%/70%/80% fan @ 40 C / 40 C / 45 C / 50 C
    +
    High Speed/Temp 100% fan @ 50 C / 55 C / 60 C / 60 C

Do you say this because you found how to correctly control fan speeds and are being cryptic or have you not tried o.O
