gsteph
Hi forum! I'm new to this whole thing and I've read most of the documentation but I couldn't seem to find a straight answer for this.I have an HP Pavillion DV6 6070ee laptop with a Core i7 2630QM and AMD Radeon HD 6770M. It also has an mPCIe 2.0 x1 slot.My EXP GDC Beast is on its way and I don't know what eGPU to get. Will I be able to take advantage of optimus compression with an NVIDIA eGPU even thought I have an AMD dGPU?Any clue? Thanks in advance. Dschijn
As far as I know, Optimus is feature for Nvidia cards to stream only to Intels iGPUs.
gsteph
I'm aware. What I have in mind is that I would completely disable the dGPU.I did read somewhere that it's completely done through software by the driver. API calls are routed to the dGPU when needed. And NVIDIA even managed to disconnect a dGPU *while* a game was running and it instantly went back to the iGPU in some live demonstration of theirs.I also heard here on this forum that it can be done and that the dGPU doesn't matter (though no actual tests). I just need confirmation before I do anything crazy.
techmods
go to device manager and disable your dgpu, after that you are free to use your egpu.
